Obituary for Gary Stetzer

Gary D. "Jingles" Stetzer, 70, of Burr Oak, peacefully lost his hard fought battle with ALS at home, where he wanted to be surrounded by loved ones, Friday, September, 20, 2024.

Gary was given the nickname Jingles when he was young because he always walked around with change in his pocket that would jingle as he went, hence, Jingles he became.

Jingles graduated from Melrose-Mindoro High School in 1972. He was employed at ACE Hardware for many years until his retirement. Jingles was an avid Green Bay Packer and Milwaukee Brewers fan and he looked forward to watching the games each week. Jingles was a life-long member of Christ Ev. Lutheran Church in Burr Oak.

When driving through Burr Oak, Jingles could usually be seen working in his massive garden or one of several strawberry beds. He enjoyed raising and canning his own vegetables and would always make sure he raised extra to share with his family and friends. If he wasn’t in the garden, he would enjoy riding his bike through the countryside, sometimes a little ride would turn into 50 or more miles before long. Jingles was best known for his infectious laugh. You couldn’t help but smile and laugh when Jingles started laughing. Most of all, Jingles was a loving and caring brother, uncle, brother-in-law, and friend. He will be deeply missed by all.

Survivors include one brother, James Stetzer; one sister, Judy (Randy) Stumlin; and a sister-in-law, Pam (the late, Russell) Stetzer; five nephews, Marcus Stetzer (Skylar), Shawn (Raylynn) Stetzer, Josh (Sierra) Stumlin, Jason Stetzer, and Chad Stetzer; three nieces, Amanda (AJ) Manske, Sara Stumlin, and Angel Stetzer; and great-nephews and nieces, Xavier, Alton, Rowan, Gavin, Joshua, Justice, David, Destini, Evelyn, Treasure, and Ryan.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Clayton and Lorraine (Kastenschmidt) Stetzer; paternal and maternal grandparents; two brothers, Curtis and Russell; one sister, Marcella; one nephew, Jamie; and one niece, April.

Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 28, 2024, at Christ Ev. Lutheran Church, Burr Oak. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. A visitation will be held on Friday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Fredrickson Funeral Home, Bangor Chapel, Hwy. 162 and Hattan St., Bangor, and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service Saturday at the church.
