Obituary for Carol L. (Knudtson) Huber

Carol L. Huber (nee, Knudtson) passed away at Black River Memorial Hospital on June 14, 2024 after a brief illness at the age of 83.

Carol was born August 10, 1940, to Lester and Cora (Weinke) Knudtson, the seventh of 8 girls. Lester was happy with all of his girls, stating the boys would come later. She was raised in Fish Creek in La Crosse County. Carol graduated from Bangor High School in 1958.

She met her future husband, Ken Huber, at the Avalon in La Crosse. They were married on January 16, 1960, in Bangor Wisconsin at St. Paul’s Ev. Lutheran Church. They actively farmed in rural Bangor until 2021. Carol worked away from the farm at Northern Engraving, Sparta, for 38 years prior to retiring.

Carol and Ken enjoyed traveling. They would go on family fishing trips to Canada, to Hawaii with the Farm Bureau and took an Alaskan Cruise. Carol would also travel with her sisters, sister in laws and friends to Branson, to Nashville and to Niagara Falls. One of her last trips was a river cruise with sisters on the Mississippi River.

Carol and Ken also loved to watch and support their daughter, Barbara, granddaughter, Shauna and now great-grandchildren, Riley and Kennedy, in showing livestock, primarily beef. Just last month, Carol was able to watch Riley and Kennedy show in their first sheep show. A learning experience for all.

Carol is survived by daughter, Barbara (Damian) Carter; granddaughter, Shauna (Daniel) Laufenberg; great-grandchildren, Riley and Kennedy Laufenberg; sisters, Lillian Malzacher, Doris Miller, Joyce Falkowski, Mildred Clark, and Sherry (Rod) Pederson; brother-in-law, Merlin (Carol) Huber; sister-in-law, Lois Huber; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Carol is preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Ken; parents, Lester and Cora Knudtson; in-laws, Leonard and Catherine Huber; sisters, Lucille Hesselberg and Ulamae Langrehr, sisters-in-law, Clarice Waldenberger and Juanita Affeldt; brothers-in-law, Wm. Hesselberg, Harvey Langrehr, Norman Malzacher, David Miller, Roger Falkowski, Andy Clark, Donovan Huber and Lavern Huber (in infancy).

A Christian Victory Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, June 22, 2024, at St. Paul’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Bangor. Rev. Brock D. Groth will officiate. Burial will follow in Burns Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m., until the time of service, Saturday, at the church.

Special thank you to the Black River Memorial Medical Surgical Staff for their kindness and caring for Carol in her last days.
