Obituary for Wilfred "Windy" Clements


On January 16, 2024, Wilfred “Windy” Clements, 85, of Bangor, Wisconsin, left this world to join his heavenly Father. He was surrounded by his loving family at his home.

He was born on March 6, 1938, to Sylvester and Serena Clements. He had a memorable birth on the kitchen table while the bread was burning in the oven. Wilfred grew up on the family farm on St. Joseph Ridge, graduated from West Salem High School in 1956 and married the love of his life, Lindia Sveen, on October 21, 1959. Together they had six wonderful children and shared 64 years of marriage.

Wilfred was a hardworking man who worked in the concrete, stucco, drywall, and masonry business. His handiwork can be seen throughout Monroe and La Crosse Counties. He contributed to the construction of the Fox Hollow Golf Course. Ending his working career at the age of 84 mowing lawns for the Village of West Salem. He had a lifelong passion for hunting, fishing, and above all, telling stories. He earned his nickname “Windy” at an early age as he was perfecting his storytelling.

He is survived by his wife, Lindia; his children, Debbie (Tom) Arendt of Norwalk, Cheryl (Chris) Rentz of Tomah, Brian (Sara) of Holmen, Penny of Sparta, and Paul (Kazoua) of Bangor; daughter-in-law, Cindy (Scott) Nofsinger; his grandchildren, Rich Clements, Jenny Campos, Pam Campos, Trevor Arendt, Ian Arendt, Chelsey Arendt, Mindy Hemmersbach, Sara Rapp, April Rousseau, Fr. Jared Clements, Jenna Clements, Jacob Clements, Ariel Volden, Hunter Volden, Eloise Clements, Rainna Vue, and Hiro Vue; his siblings, Sylvester (Pat) Clements, Carlene Oestriecher, Dale (Diane) Clements, and Sandra Schmitz; and many other extended grandchildren, relatives and friends who will miss him dearly. Wilfred was preceded in death by his son, Rick Clements; his parents, Sylvester and Serena Clements; his in-laws, Elvin and Thea Sveen; his brothers-in-law, Joe Oestriecher and Ken Schmitz; and sons-in-law, Michael Stahl, and Tod “Otto” Rousseau.

The family would like to express their gratitude for the support, encouragement, and prayers they received during this difficult time. They would also like to thank St. Croix Hospice, BrightStar Care, and Gundersen Health Systems for their compassionate care of Wilfred.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday January 23, 2024, at St. Patrick’s Parish, 118 South K St, Sparta, Wisconsin, 54656. Father Jared Clements will celebrate, and Father Eric Berns will concelebrate. Luncheon will follow. Visitation will be held from 9:00 am to 10:45 am, with a eulogy delivered at 10:45 am.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to: Cancer, Dementia, or Alcoholic Anonymous.
