Obituary for Larry John Indahl


Larry John Indahl, 72, passed away surrounded by his loving family on November 22, 2021 at Gundersen Health System in La Crosse. He was born in La Crosse, WI to John “Jack” and Charlotte (Monson) Indahl. Larry graduated from West Salem High School in 1967. After graduation, he attended Western Wisconsin Technical Institute, receiving his associate degree in accounting. Larry then served in the Army as a military accountant until being honorably discharged in November of 1975. After the Army, he continued his experience and education by attending Western Wisconsin Technical Institute, receiving an associate degree in industrial engineering. Larry was employed as an industrial engineer and cost estimator for Trane Company and then as an accountant for Altec, for a combined 17 years, before moving on to other employment opportunities until his retirement in 2011. After retirement, he appreciated serving others while driving for a local transit company and volunteering at Gundersen Health System. Larry’s many pastimes enjoyed with family and friends included, bowling, golfing, square dancing, and watching his grandchildren’s sporting events. Additionally, he enjoyed attending La Crosse Loggers games, Brewers games, and Daytona 500 races, all which held a special place in his heart when shared with his family and closest friends. Larry was beloved by his family and friends and known for his gentle nature and lighthearted humor. Larry will be greatly missed by his children, Kelly Wesley of Holmen and Christy (Trevor) Indahl-LaFleur of Onalaska; grandchildren, Alyssa (Adam) Behringer, Briana (Will) Indahl, Kendra Roberts, Dylan Wesley, Austin (Xenia) Wesley, Makina LaFleur, and Elijah LaFleur; and great-granddaughter, Olivia, and great grandson, Wren. He is additionally survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, John and Charlotte Indahl; brother, David (Carol) Indahl; and life-long friends, Mike and Alan Hanson. Our special thanks to the wonderful staff and caregivers who cared for Larry at Gundersen Health System, UW-Madison Health System, and the VA clinics in La Crosse and Tomah. A visitation and memorial service will be held from 10 am until the time of service at 12 pm, on Thursday, December 2, 2021 at the Jandt-Fredrickson Funeral Home, Jostad Chapel, West Salem (121 N. Youlon Street). Pastors Jonathan and Jean Schmidt will officiate. Graveside services and burial will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, December 3, 2021, in Neshonoc Cemetery, West Salem. Military honors will be rendered by the United States Army Funeral Honor Guard and the Berg-Hemker-Olson American Legion Post 51 of West Salem.
