Obituary for Mathew Brasic

Mathew L. Brasic, 55, of Bangor, passed away on May 26, 2024. He was born in Medford, Oregon, to William and Imogene Brasic on March 13, 1969. He attended high school in Tomah, WI, and Valdez, AK. Matt was a lifelong learner in areas of healthcare and emergency medicine and ultimately earned his DNP from Viterbo University.

On April 13, 1996, Matt married Gerlyn Heil in Marshfield, WI. During their 28 years of marriage, they were blessed with 2 amazing children, Danika and Elizabeth “Zero.”

Most recently, Matt worked as a nurse practitioner at Gundersen ExpressCare Clinic in La Crosse. He has also worked as an RN at Gundersen, Mayo, and occupational health at Trane. His co-workers knew him as a great guy with a wonderful dry sense of humor.

He loved teaching, especially disaster preparedness classes through Midwest Disaster Medical. He also enjoyed camping with his family, motorcycle trips with his brother James, watching movies with his beautiful daughters, and ham radio. Matt was particularly skilled at metal work and frequently milled or created unique and innovative mechanical designs to solve household problems. Matt earned a gunsmith degree from Pine Tech, MN, and spent many years doing this as a hobby. He was an avid fan of 80’s music and could name any song title and artist after hearing only a few notes.

Matt is survived by his wife, Gerlyn, their children, Danika and Elizabeth of Bangor; mother, Imogene (Bob Gutsche) Brasic of Tomah; father, William Brasic of Valdez, AK; brother James (Erica) Brasic of Kansas, OH, and their children Sydney, Ben, Nate, and Natalie; grandparents Elmer and Edna Georgeson of Camp Douglas, WI; aunt Susan Ludeking, uncle Ken (Sherry) Georgeson. He is predeceased by his stepmother, Tweet Brasic, uncle Arvid Georgeson, uncle Gary Ludeking, and Grandparents Peter and Eleanor Brasic.

Family, friends and others whose lives Matt touched are invited to the visitation at Fredrickson Funeral Home, 102 Hattan St., Bangor, on June 7 from 3-5 pm. A memorial service will be held at 5 pm with Amy Jo Van Arsdall officiating. A celebration of life gathering will be held at Dragonfly Retreat, 305 17th Ave N, Bangor following the service.

In place of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Mini Donut Foundation, www.mini donut foundation.com, an organization which raises money for suicide prevention and education within our community.
