Obituary for Robert "Bob" Elliot


Robert Allen Elliott, 89, of West Salem, passed away Friday, February 16, 2024, in La Crosse, Wisconsin. He was born March 18, 1934, to Beulah Edna Bebee, in Monroe County, Wisconsin and she preceded him in death. He went to work for David and Lillian Elliott on their farm at age 9 and was adopted by them at age 13. On March 8, 1955, he married Lois Rose Schomburg and she preceded him in death in 2020. Three children survive Laurie (Bruce) Hawkins, David (Karen) Elliott, and Roberta (Kevin) Johnson. Their fourth child, Arlene, passed away in 2019. Bob and Lois had five grandchildren, Jenn (Dom) Conti, Katie (Seth) Christianson, Reannon (Rich) Nailor, Ryan (Kristen) Elliott, and Kylee Brooks, and ten great-grandchildren, Ashley, Shelby, Joe, and Vince Conti, Elly and Bennett Christianson, Jordan Nailor, Brody and Owen Elliott, and Lanie Brooks.

Bob was the oldest child in his birth family and was preceded in death by his sisters Jeanette, Norma, Patty, and Joanne, his adopted brothers Leroy and Irvin (Ardelle) Elliott, and Lois’ brothers Carl, Richard, and Arlen Schomburg. He is survived by his sister Mickey Osgood, sister-in-laws and brother-in-laws Barbara Schomburg, Colleen (Laverne) Dunnum, Linda (Dave) Werner, and Gary (Pam) Schomburg, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Bob’s interests included going for rides, antiquing, doing projects around the house and garden, telling jokes and stories, and polishing his cars, especially the Studebakers. He didn’t know a stranger.

Bob worked for many years delivering milk door to door, as a bulk milk hauler, managing the La Crosse County Farm, driving trucks for FoxMeyer, and trimming the rough for Fox Hollow Golf Course. He and Lois spent many winters in Apache Junction, AZ, where they made many friends. While in Arizona they made trips to Hawaii, and to see the Rose Bowl Parade in person. Bob and Lois also enjoyed a Caribbean cruise.
