Obituary for Gloria D. Nuttleman


Gloria Dawn Nuttleman, 85, of West Salem passed away Saturday, December 26, 2020 at Gundersen Health System in La Crosse. She was born July 11, 1935, to Ray and Theodora (Bernd) Smith. Gloria married Robert Nuttleman on October 14, 1955, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Gloria is survived by her husband, Robert Nuttleman; children, Carey (Barb) Nuttleman, Karl (Julie) Nuttleman, and Roberta Nuttleman; grandchildren, Lisa and Travis Nuttleman, Allison (John Jr) Warnecke, and Joseph Nuttleman; great-grandson, Carter Warnecke with another one due March 2021; sisters, Gladys (Delmar) Pettis and Diane Martine; sister-in-law, Vera Smith; and brother-in-law, Ron Rice. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. One of Gloria’s last wishes was to see Carter on Christmas Day open his presents. She was preceded in death by her parents; her in-laws, Alice and Ervin Nuttleman, Sr.; sisters, Phyllis Powell, Mary Rice, Darlene Campbell, Beverly Koltermann, and Jean Davis; brothers, Donald and Ray (Corky) Smith; brothers-in-law, Edward Powell, Andy Campbell, Frank Kolterman, Sr., and Robert Davis; and brother and sister in law Ervin Jr., and Barbara Nuttleman. Gloria was the “rock” of Nuttleman’s Garage she was the bookkeeper, parts runner and all the other duties given to her throughout her life. She was a wonderful cook, gardener and canner. Gloria is well known for her homemade candies and pickles for holiday gatherings. During the summer she would take pride in her baking, canning, gardening and flowers to enter into the La Crosse County Fair. Every year at fair time the family would brag about her jelly roll, and famous coffee cake Gloria was a 4-H leader for many years with the Brookside 4-H club, and worked the election polls for the Town of Hamilton. Gloria was one of the longest standing poll workers for the 2020 Presidential election. Being a poll worker was something she looked forward to every year. Gloria was also a member of the Gills Coulee Homemakers Club. One of Gloria’s favorite past time was going to the casino with her sisters and fishing whenever she had the opportunities. Some of her best fishing memories were from their trips to Canada. Private services for family will be held and a public memorial service will be held at a later date.
