We have lost a very good friend and neighbor. We will miss his phone calls during the holidays to tell us how he liked the decorations that we had outside. And how in the summer he would walk up and sit and talk and joke with us. The neighborhood breakfasts will not be the same without Bernie. The neighborhood will now be alittle lonelier. We love you and will miss you. Love Al & Sue Bluske

I'm honored to be the first to list a condolence for Bernie. I have known Marge and Bernie for really only 20 months and lived next to them for 22 months. To me, it feels like I've lived next to them and have known them for many years. It is easy to see why their daughters have such friendly and welcoming personalities. Their parents are the perfect examples. One day in March while I was unpacking my garage, Bernie came walking across the yard and said now that he was back in WI it was time to meet his new neighbor. From that moment on, he became my bonus dad. There wasn't a thing he wouldn't do for me, help me with or situation he didn't make me laugh in. I hope I have returned the kindness. Any night that he was sitting outside when I came home from work he always extended an invitation to me to pull up a chair outside and chat with him awhile. I truly could not have ordered up better neighbors than Bernie and Marge. I am going to miss my "supervisor" when I'm cleaning his or my gutters or mowing our lawns. I will always remember my days in Texas with them and all our card playing. I will always carry with me that on Wednesday, October 27,2010, over my lunch, in his kitchen, walking him out to the car, he stopped and patted my hand and told me I was a daughter to him. He was certainly a bonus father to me and I will never forget it. It breaks my heart to walk to my garage these past mornings and look up at Marge and Bernie's house and know that Bernie is not going to be there anymore. I was prepared for him to be gone for the winter again, I am not prepared for him to be gone forever. I am so going to miss him. Marge, Julie, & Suzette, your husband and father was a special man and I really loved him and he will be forever missed by me. I know you know, but I want to say it, I will always be there for anything you need. Love you Marge.

Bernie, I want to say Thank You for being the cousin I always will remember. The great time we had playing tag and breaking bread at your Mother and Dad's table. Always will remember all the Birthday Parties, Weddings and just the plain old visited all the cousins always had. I will miss you and don't forget to save a place for me in your new home. We'll talk, talk and talkabout happy times. Marge my thoughts and prayers will be with you and your family on Saturday it is a little far, for my husband Maurice and I to come all the way from Lake Havasu City, AZ; but again will be thinking of you. Love, always, Pat

You will be missed as we had a long time friendship - since 1923 Grant St. in Fairbault. So many good times and too many to write about. Our travels were great together too. The October Fests in La Crosse were memorable. Some one has asked if Marge and Ruth were sisters. Also if Bernie and Al were brothers. You and Marge were always there for any family highlights. (Marriages, anniversary's, birthdays and what ever else came along.) Our kids always enjoyed going to Knudtson's. They have kept a lifetime friendship going also and their kids got to know you too. Lots of memories we have to value. Love, Ruth & Al

What comes to mind when I think of Uncle Bernie is laughter and a smile. I am thankful that growing up the Knudtson family had so many get togethers. This meant ALL the uncles teasing us but it was always so much fun-great memories. Uncle Bernie and Aunt Marge came to visit us once for a few days. After taking a shower Uncle Bernie announced "the fish in the bath tub almost got my little worm". We had a fish shaped bath mat at the time. It still makes us laugh! You never knew what he was going to say and you did not want to miss it. Love ya Uncle Bernie -get a card game going with Grandpa,Grandma and the uncles.
