To live in the hearts and minds of those we leave behind

Let us help get you started

Condolences for

Such a gracious, faithful Pastor and person devoted to his flock and family. We will miss his presence within Holmen Lutheran Church. His light will truly shine on within those he served on earth and before his Lord. Peace, comfort to Luanne and his family.
From Edward And Diane Eisermann

I just learned of Reverend Roger Hjelle's passing. He was one of my confirmation pastors at Orleans Lutheran Church, part of the Ridgeway Parrish. I still remember him as a kind and caring man. My deepest sympathies to Luanne and her family.
From Eric Gardner

I just learned of Roger's passing from my friend John Stalbaum. Roger and I were from the same area of Wisconsin (Wauzeka and Soldiers Grove) and I roomed with Roger one year at Luther, off-campus in Dr. Kloster's house. He was a fun, easy-going roommate (there were four of us in that place). I don't think I saw Roger after our college years, but I know he faithfully served congregations in Viroqua and LaCrosse. My sympathy to you, Luanne, and to your family. God bless this faithful servant of the Gospel.
From Rev. David Olson

We were so saddened to hear about Pastor's passing. He was such an important part of our Good Shepherd family, making my daughters and I feel welcome and at home. I will always be thankful for him for his guidance, support and strength during a very difficult time in our lives. Olivia, "Little-bits," "Smidge," Jerry and I all send our love and prayers to you and your family.

I am SO sorry to hear of Rogers passing. I can still smell his pipe and miss it every time I walk into Good Shepherd. I have so many good memories of him through my school years. I am so glad we were able to see him at the Craft Fair in LaCrosse in November. (side note: We got one if his salt and paper grinders, and I gave it to my brother Roger for Christmas. Now I really wish I had bought two. If you still have one that you want to sell I would totally love it.) I really am sorry for your loss. He touched so many lives in a postive way, memories of him will live forever! Hugs, prayers and piece to your whole family! Love you always, Carmen - and family

Since my move to the La Crosse area synod, Roger was always welcoming to me as a somewhat younger colleague, and I was happy when he and Luanne joined Holmen Lutheran in retirement--where I was still one of the pastors. I will never forget a Saturday evening worship service that he and you, Luanne, were attending. I did have a children's message in mind, but there were no young children in attendance. About to skip it and continue on, we all heard Roger's deep firm voice saying, "We're ALL children!"--as though encouraging me to 'bring it on'! (So I did. :) Thanks for all that the two of you have contributed, Luanne!

Bill and I are so saddened of Pastor Roger's sudden death and just the fact that we have known him over the many years of Josh and Anissa's marriage... then Grandkiddes...we send our deepest sympathy to you LuAnne...the many trips North to Owatonna Basketball games, Cross-Country meets... confirmations... and way back to even taking turns when we retired to get the kids off to 4-K...brought us together as very good friends...He was a remarkable father and Grampa...and we saw that every time we were around him...He loved all his family so so much...Blessed be our friendship... always....

Thinking of you, Luanne, and all the family. It is especially hard during this extra stressful time. We will miss Pastor Roger, and our "check-in" visits at the various craft shows! He was so talented and we know how much he loved the work he did. Thanks also for pastoring all of us at Good Shepherd - the support of both of you gave us many blessings. You are all in our thoughts and prayers. Stay safe and well.
